SEA Milan Airports’ Cargo and Aviation Business meet the Chinese market

SEA hosted a Chinese delegation from the prefecture of Jiaxing, in the province of Zhejiang, led by the secretary of the local party, with the aim of discussing future possibilities of collaboration in the field of freight transport.

In the first part of the meeting, held at Terminal 1, SEA illustrated the characteristics of Malpensa airport; afterwards, a visit to Malpensa Cargo City and to MLE warehouse allowed the delegation to see how cargo is organized and managed at MXP.

The following day, SEA took part in the Jiaxing - Milan (Italy) Investment Promotion Seminar, organized by the Italy China Council Foundation and the Municipal Government of the city of Jiaxing* in collaboration with Jiaxing Industrial Group and Senfter Holding SpA. The core topic of the meeting was the design of the new Jiaxing logistics hub, which will be completed in 2025 and for which SEA was asked to contribute in terms of know-how.

Finally, on Friday July 21st, at Palazzo Pirelli in Milan, the event Xi'An (China) - Italy, new opportunities for collaboration and cooperation was held. SEA took the opportunity to present the passengers and cargo traffic potential between Milan and China. In particular, SEA met some delegates of the management company of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY)**, whose expansion plan includes the construction of a new passenger terminal of approximately 700,000-square-meters, capable of accommodating 120 million passengers annually, and a 100,000-square-meters cargo area that will handle 2 million tons of cargo a year, consolidating XIY's role as a strategic aviation hub in the framework of an aerial silk road that connects the five continents with the Central China region.

* Jiaxing is a coastal city located in the southern side of Shanghai, which was ranked 31st among the 100 most relevant cities in the country. It excels for its rail, road, river, sea and air transport. As a matter of facts, it is an important import and export trading base of China, with trade relations with 223 countries and regions around the world. 57 internationally renowned Italian companies are based there.

** Xi'An is the capital of Shaanxi Province in central China. Once known as Chang'an (eternal peace), it marks the easternmost point of the ancient Silk Road route and it was the seat of the Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang dynasties. The famous Bingmayong (the Terracotta Warriors) is found in the archaeological sites in the surrounding plains.
